Hilmar Pabel, 1910-2000
Moscow Flower Woman, 1960, print from around 1980
Signed on verso with studio label and inscribed by hand with the history of the picture, as it was taken in Moscow in front of the Minsk railroad station:
"When I wanted to photograph the row of flower women, this woman raised her hands and called out to me: 'Wait, little brother, I can do something, look here' - and poof she went down at my feet - in a classic split - at the age of 60: Yes, you know, I was once, long, long ago, a ballet rat at the Bolshoi school! I wanted to be a great ballerina - haha - what did I become? A flower lady! 'Will you buy my bouquet now?"
