Vostell is one of the most important artists of the second half of the 20th century. He is regarded as the pioneer of video art (with Nam June Paik), the Happening and the Fluxus movement. He developed the concept of décollage. In 1958, he was the first artist to integrate a TV set into a work of art and was involved in the first European Happening in Paris in the same year. Vostell also became known for his "concreting". In 1969, he embedded an Opel in concrete. Since 1977, he has been working in Milan, Barcelona and Paris, taking part in numerous international exhibitions and organizing 51 happenings worldwide.
