Note: Alfred-Louis Daguet was an enigmatic artist trained by Jean-Léon Gérôme and Charles Clairin, who distinguished himself in Paris in 1900 with creations of singular style, first exhibited by Siegfried Bing in his famous "L'Art Nouveau" boutique. He then opened his own workshop and attracted a prestigious international clientele, including Sarah Bernhardt and the Barrymore brothers. He exhibited regularly at the Paris Salons. This box, typical of his production around 1910, is characteristic of his blend of Russian, Celtic and Egyptian influences, his technical experimentation in the use of new materials (copper, brass, repoussé iron, enamel and glassware) and his creative genius.
