It was designed by Colin Chapman, a great automotive engineer. The car was produced in 4 series until 1970. Replicated like the Cobra, only the Caterham brand would be officially recognized. Caterham was so involved in the project that it even participated in the production of the original model. Designed between 1969 and 1971, the Lotus Seven Series 4 was the first to feature a fiberglass body. Powertrain choices were the same as for the Series 3: a Ford 1.3L 72hp engine from the Cortina, a Ford 1.6L 84hp, a Lotus Twin-Cam 1.6L 105hp and a Lotus Twin-Cam 1.6L 120hp prepared by Holbay.
