Portrait of Marc Pierre de Voyer de Paulmy, comte d'Argenson

Provenance: formerly at Château des Ormes until 1900; collection of the Marquise d'Argenson; by inheritance aumarquis de Goulaine, her grandson, then by descent, Château de Goulaine.
Our drawing is a ricordo of the portrait of Marc Pierre de Voyer de Paulmy, comte d'Argenson see Ariane James-
Sarazin, Hyacinthe Rigaud (1659-1743), tome II : Le catalog raisonné, P1411, Dijon, Editions Faton, 2016, repr). Rigaud was always in the habit of making a copy of his paintings to show his future patrons the full extent of his possibilities. Rigaud would draw the face and hands, and his studio would execute the drapery and positioning.
Two other drawn ricordi of the portrait of Marc Pierre de Voyer de Paulmy, comte d'Argenson are listed by
Mme James-Sarazin (see op. cit. D138-D141, repr.).
We would like to thank Mme James-Sarazin for kindly confirming the attribution of this drawing after a visual examination, and for the related information.
