CANTAGREL. Le Fou du Palais-Royal. P., La Librairie phalanstérienne (publication of the Ecole sociétaire), 1841, 8°, 504 p., glazed red half-calf, spine with 4 faux-nerfs, author and title gilt (scattered russets). First edition enriched with a mailing: "A mon ami Ricourt / Cantagrel". In the 1840s, François Cantagrel (1810-1887) became a leading figure in the sociétaire movement. He took part in spreading Fourierist ideas through various works, in particular Le Fou du Palais-Royal, which, in the form of conversations between an individual named X and several interlocutors, popularized Fourier's ideas with some success.
