1938 ZUNDAPP Type K800 Serial number: 141465 800 cm3 To be registered as a collector's item 16 000 / 20 000 € Founded during the Great War to produce armaments, Zündapp turned to motorcycle production after the end of the war under its new owner, Dr. Fritz Neumeyer, and offered its 1st model in 1921. The company began producing its own engines in 1924, when it sold over 10,000 motorcycles. In 1933, at the Berlin Motor Show, it introduced the 1st of its four-stroke, horizontally opposed two-cylinder machines that made the brand's reputation. Among the pioneering models in the formula, the K400 (398 cm3) and K500 (496 cm3) were lateral twins using the unusual chain-driven gearbox and shaft final drive designed by engineer Richard Küchen. Introduced at the same time, another of Küchen's designs featured a 4-cylinder flat opposed engine of either 598 cm3 (K600) or 798 cm3 (K800). Common to all heavy types and well designed to take the strain of the roughest roads, the sturdy frame and parallelogram front fork were made from pressed sheet metal, an advanced feature at the time. The new Zündapp range was a huge success, and in September 1933 the company produced its 100,000th motorcycle, a fine achievement after just over 10 years in the industry. This rare Art Deco masterpiece from Zündapp is original to an early restoration and comes with its German title. We recommend that future purchasers carry out the usual recommissioning due to the immobilization of these machines in the collector's museum. We recommend that future purchasers carry out the customary restarts required by the immobilization of these machines in the collector's museum.
