Koehler-Escoffier was founded in 1912 by Marcel Koehler, an ECL engineer, and Jules Escoffier, a former mechanic at Magnat-Debon. It was the successor to the Escoffier brand, founded in 1911. The brand built an engine nicknamed the mandolin, a 500 cm3 tumbled V-twin.
The company was bought by Raymond Guiguet in 1922. In 1926, the company began manufacturing engines with four valves per cylinder. It was bought by Monet-Goyon in 1929, and disappeared in 1957. For the record, Marcel Koehler was one of the co-founders of the Facel company in December 1939, which he managed until the arrival of Jean Daninos in 1945, who, with his passion for fast, luxurious automobiles, created the ultimate French prestige brand Facel Vega in 1954.
Our example is a BMA "Bicyclette à Moteur Auxiliaire". The pre-war moped was inspired by the same concern for democratization, but with different constraints: maximum cubic capacity 100 cm3, maximum weight 30 kg, maximum speed 30 km/h, compulsory pedals.
We recommend that future purchasers carry out the customary restarts required by the immobilization of these machines in the collector's museum.
