1928 HARLEY DAVIDSON Type BA Serial number: 28BA3381 350 cm3 Collector's registration 10 000 / 15 000 € In response to Indian's single-cylinder model, Harley-Davidson introduced two new 350cc Singles in 1926: the side-valve Solo type A with magneto ignition, and the type B with battery ignition and lighting, both equipped with an 8 hp engine and priced at an unbeatable $210 and $235 respectively. More demanding customers were offered the Sport Solo model, equipped with a more sophisticated and more powerful OHV engine, rated at around 12 hp. It was available in AA type with magneto ignition and BA type with battery ignition and lighting system. These models were easy to repair, featuring quickly removable cylinder heads with combustion chambers designed by Ricardo, a 3-speed gearbox, the aerodynamically shaped Teardrop fuel tank, allowing even lower seating on the spring-loaded seat, retractable footrests, a rear stand and a kickstarter. In 1927, Harley-Davidsons were fitted with a reinforced frame, clutch springs and improved exhaust pipes. In 1928, all models were equipped with light-alloy pistons, an air filter, an oil pump controlled from the throttle, and an additional front brake. All these models were made to order in small series. The model on offer was overhauled in 2017 at District Motos.
