Yoruba statuette, Ibeji Igbomina, Nigeria Wood, beads, iron H. 26 cm Provenance : - Pace Primitive and Ancient Art, New York - Aguedo Hernandez Herrero, Mexico, acquired from the latter in 1983 - By descent - Private collection Beautiful statuette featuring a standing female figure, her hands resting on her thighs. Beneath a sugar-loaf hairstyle, the face is part of an ovoid head. Partly erased by wear, the facial features are finely executed. The oblong breasts are generous, the buttocks bountiful. Thick iron staples consolidate the base. This sculpture is distinguished by its slender silhouette and its remarkable patina of use, attesting to the care with which it has been treated.
