GRACIAN Baltazar. L'homme de cour. Paris, vve Martin & J. Boudot, 1684; in-4 contemporary brown calf, a little rubbed but solid, spine ribbed and decorated. First edition of N. Amelot de la Houssaie's translation. It is decorated with a BEAUTIFUL PORTRAIT OF LOUIS XIV SCROLLING A PLAN BY VAUBAN engraved by P. Le Pautre and a header by the same artist. A famous treatise on education, but with room for duplicity and dissimulation under the pretext of propriety.
