Pheasant among roses, China, 19th century Folded fan known as a "cabriolet", double sheets of painted paper with 30 figures on the terraces of a palace. All are dressed in silk appliqué and have heads in relief. The second leaf is painted with a pheasant among roses. The reverse painted with a pheasant among roses, in a cartel bordered by bats and symbolic objects. Two landscapes are painted in side panels. The second leaf features 10 figures in silk clothing. Black lacquered bamboo frame with gold decoration of flowers, butterflies and fruit. Metal clasp and silk tassel. H.t. 23.2 cm (worn, missing, restored)
