Les dessous du Gotha, an unidentified underwear tailor's order book for Parisian high society at the end of the 19th century, bound album titled Dessins 1894-1898, 8795 and from 1 to 200, this unpublished book contains around 139 orders from major customers, mainly ladies including Mlle Greffulhle, the Duchesse d'Uzès and the Countess de Camondo, for warm underwear mainly in cashmere, merino and silk, but also in cotton or linen. The non-exhaustive inventory of undergarments includes: half shirts, bodices, vests, bibs, sleeves and leggings, mittens, jerseys and schappes, camisoles, wimps, skullcaps, petticoats, boxer briefs, footed pants and fingerless pants, stocking-mounted boxer briefs making footed pants and a bathing suit (vest and pants).
These undergarments are briefly described in the margin with their selling price and are accompanied by a reduced pattern traced in black ink with detailed measurements in inches. 139 models, album 35, 5 x 23 cm
