SALT MERCHANTS ON THE RHÔNE. 1434. Mention of the appointement made on March 12, 1434 with the SALT merchants of VALENCE (Drôme) by the people and officers of the King of France and the King of Sicily, assembled in AVIGNON (State of the Pope) on March 10, 1434. Namely that the Merchants will take the Salt to VALENCE at the customary terms. "...Mace HÉRON Conseiller et trésorier du Roy, notre Sire, comme Gouverneur et administrateur et à la recette de l'émolument du Grenier à SEL établi dans la Ville de PONT-SAINT-ESPRIT (Gard). As to enforce the said granaries in favor of Our Sire, We have assembled in the City of Avignon, with the people and Officers of the King of Sicily, because of the Company between the King and the King of Sicily and appointed... The SALT merchants of the City of VALENCE (Drôme) frequenting the Rhone River... the merchants are required to pay for the ordinary Gabelles...
