Trained in Paris in the studio of Charles Le Roux and later Jean Léon Gérôme, Louis Alphonse Combe Velluet returned to his native Charente. Here, his depiction of Pornic is historically interesting. It shows the château as it was in its former form. François Bougouin carried out the alterations from 1886 onwards, but the painting here is dated 1882.
