Manet's last private exhibition took place at the gallery of the publisher Charpentier, boulevard des Italiens: 10 oil paintings (including Le café-concert) and 15 pastels.
Manet died three years later, aged 51, and his first posthumous exhibition took place in January 1884, just before the sale of his estate at Hôtel Drouot on February 4 and 5, 1884.
