Eugène DUBOIS (1795-1863), medallist and sculptor.
Autograph letter signed to medallist Augustin Dupré (1748-1833), general engraver of coins. 1 p. in-4. Paris, June 4, 1832. Address on back. Minor defects.
On a medal in honor of Joan of Arc. "The corner of the medal struck in memory of the restoration of the monument erected in honor of Joan of Arc, a work by your hand, has long since been broken, Monsieur. The Comte de Sussy, President of the Commission des Monnaies et Médailles, has decided that this corner should be restored. His intention, sir, knowing that you are resting, is to entrust this work to me". He wishes to obtain his approval and to know if he still has a hallmark of this medal "because in the absence of this hallmark, I will be obliged to draw one on the broken corner, an operation that I will carry out with all the care of which I am capable". He sends him "the expression of the tributes that the young artists owe you, your beautiful works are in their hands and you will long be their master".
