In the past, those who passed the mandarin civil exams, after being honoured by the king, could return to the native village with all the goods given for the rituals of honour called 'Vinh Quy Bái Tổ' (Glory to the ancestors).
In this sentence, 'Vinh' means glory, honour, it consists in achieving a resounding feat that makes people admirable; 'Quy' means to return to the old place; 'Bái' in terms of movement is bowing, kneeling, with the idea of showing respect; 'Tổ', in addition to the meaning of ancestors, from previous generations, also contains the original meaning, the native land.
