ERRATA A detached spigot and wick //// * A pair of large candelabra in chased and gilded bronze and brown patina bronze, representing winged Victories each holding a floral wreath and an arm in the form of a flaming torch surrounded by five curved arms. Cubic sea-green marble bases adorned with ribbon-tied laurel wreaths and antique-style draped women. Attributed to Pierre-Philippe THOMIRE (1751-1843), after a design by Charles Percier (1764-1838). Empire period. 97 × 34 × 32 cm. (Some oxidation and soiling). Bibliography: H. Ottomeyer and P. Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen, 1986, page 328, pl. 5.2.2. This candelabra model is reproduced in Vergoldete Bronzen (op. cit.), which refers to a preparatory drawing in Thomire's Album of 1817, now in the Stockholm National Museum (NMG 35/1874: 3). A pair of candelabra of the same model, but with gilded bronze bases, was sold on September 18, 2008 (Koller, lot 1332, Zurich). Lots 37 to 60 are reproduced in Architectural Digest, September 1989.
