Thanks to Professor Michele Danieli for providing the attribution of the work.
Tamburini is a figure who has recently emerged from the shadows that covered him for centuries; in fact, his works have often been confused with those of Giovanni Andrea Donducci known as the Mastelletta. His approach to scenes of popular life is dictated by an amused and mocking vision so rather than the Roman examples of the pitocchi his feeling is drawn from Jacques Callot. Of his biography we have the little data in Malvasia's Felsinea Pittrice, where he is described, surprisingly, as a pupil of Reni although rather his roots should be sought among the works of Carracci and Bartolomeo Passerotti.
