Very fine and rare proof on thin laid paper, of the 2nd state (of 3), with the date, the angel now turned towards Mary Magdalene, the latter without the cross in her hand, trimmed on the subject but complete with the tablet, mounted on cardboard with gold fillet and wash, bearing the handwritten inscription in ink: "Pièce rare. Première épreuve non terminée provenant du cabinet de M. Mariette". Some scattered foxing. Tiny tears or stains at foot of folio. Margin fillet at left. Initialed by Pierre Mariette II in pen and sepia ink, with the date "1679" (Lugt 1788). Ex-coll. A. S. Vlassof (Lugt 2706).
