KINGDOM OF HOLLAND ROYAL ORDER OF THE UNION (1807) Luxurious knight's star from Baron de Sénégra, Grand Master of Holland. In 18-carat gold, composed of an eight-pointed star, four large and four small, with eight finely chased and engraved gold bees in between. The obverse of the star's branches, the balls, the crown and the ring are entirely enriched with faceted diamonds. 26 diamonds on the star. White enamel on the reverse of the branches. Obverse of gold center with Dutch Lion rising from the waves, with sky-blue enamel legend inlaid with gold "DOE WEL EN ZIE NIET OM *". Reverse of center with bundle of arrows, with sky-blue enamel legend inlaid with gold "EENDRAGT MAAKT MAGT". 40 x 33 mm (without ring). Gross weight: 6g. Original bouffette ribbon. T.T.B. Circa November 1807. Work attributed to CIOVINO and TRUFFINO frères. Historical background: Pieter Ciovino associated with the Santo and Joseph Truffino brothers. Court jewelers to King Louis Napoleon Bonaparte, they were responsible for the creation of the Necklace of the Order of the Union of Holland in 1807, as well as for most of the jewelry and plaques of the Royal Order of Holland and later of the Order of the Union.
