H. 44 cm Haida-Gwaii, British Columbia North West Coast H. 17 3/8 in Provenance: - Galerie Alexis Brimaud, Paris Model totem pole or gyaaGang gii niijang in Haida language. This beautifully crafted pole is adorned with a series of superimposed animals: eagle, raven, bear, wolf and a human face. These representations are the heraldic coat of arms of a person or family. Sculpted in black argillite, these refined works are one of the most aesthetic achievements of late 19th-century artists in British Columbia.
