SOUMAK carpet (Caucasus-Shirvan), late 19th century Dimensions: 290 x 198cm. Technical features: Wool velvet on wool foundation. A brick field, highlighted with two-tone chess pawns and seeded with "thousand" flowers, diamonds, Medes stars and small symbols, supports four cruciform medallions in ivory, navy, brick and old gold, composed of stylized vegetation and hooks. The medallions are enriched by eight segments of the same type, interspersed with small old gold boxes featuring florets and crosses. Two anthracite counter-borders with a succession of florets frame the main one, which is ivory with a succession of stylized leaves and multicolored hourglasses. Outer braid in brick, anthracite and gold. Magnificent graphics and palette.
