Vicaire, IV-244 /// 16-(2f.)-XI-424.
Original edition with frontispiece by Cousin printed on Chine monté. Copy complete with prospectus of Victor Hugo's works.
Copy enriched with two autograph letters signed by Victor Hugo. The first is addressed to Gosselin, the publisher of Les Orientales, dated December 1828, (3f. in-8), in which he asks about the progress of the publication of his collection of poems: Est-ce vous donner des ordres pour commencer l'in-18?... There's no time to lose. He worries about publicity: I'm assured that neither the Constitutionnel, nor Le Commerce, nor the Gazette have published any advertisements... He then invites her to come and take his copy of Bug-Jargal La seconde non datée, addressed to a young poet whom he asks to bring his copy of Orientales and to stay for dinner at the same time.
