was a Lyon historian who frequented the city's world of arts and letters, and from
1847, a columnist for various publications such as the Gazette de Lyon and the Revue du Lyonnais. He
is the author of numerous papers on the history of Lyonnais families. In his
bibliographie généalogique (II, 28348) lists the following work written in collaboration with H. de
Charpin-Feugerolles: Recueil de documents pour servir à l'Histoire de l'ancien gouvernement de
Lyon, contenant des notices chronologiques et généalogiques sur les familles nobles... Lyon, Perrin,
1854. He comments: ''Only the first part has been published, containing the bishops and archbishops of Lyon (...).
Lyon.(...) The other parts were to include aldermen, intendants, governors, clergy, magistrates and
magistracy and famous people.'' The coats of arms were probably painted by
Lyon historian André Steyert (Lyon 1830-1904). ''His talents as a draughtsman led him to be employed by
magazines such as l'Illustration, but his life was one of drudgery. He enriched his life by
frequenting scholars at the bookseller Auguste Brun, at no. 13 rue du Plat, who asked him to draw coats-of-arms
to draw coats of arms, write notices and thus become a heraldist, with the help of Louis
Morel de Voleine and Jean Vital de Valous.'' (Dict. Hist. de Lyon, 1254). Ex-libris Irénée Morel de
Voleine.
