Our painting is similar to the six paintings (56 x 126 cm; signed, located and dated Antonio Xuered Malta 1776) by Antonio Xuered sold in 2000 (Tajan, December 20, 2000, no. 10). Until the discovery of these signatures and dates in 2000, the paintings were attributed to Alberto Pullicino (see Sotheby's sale, October 29, 1998, no. 237 and Christie's sale, July 5, 1985, no. 58).
