Attributed to Francesco RUSTICI, known as IL RUSTICHINO (1592 - 1626) The Virgin and Child with the young Saint John the Baptist Canvas 67.5 x 46 cm (Old restorations) According to a verbal communication from Marco Ciampolini, the young Rustichino is the author of our painting. He took the group of the Madonna and Child from the Sodoma (Siena, Museo dell' Opera del Duomo) and added the young John the Baptist on the left. The latter is comparable to the young St. John the Baptist in The Madonna and Child with St. John the Baptist as Child, St. Francis and St. Catherine of Siena (Chiusure, Asciano, Museum of the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore) and The Madonna and Child with St. John the Baptist as Child, St. Michael the Archangel and St. Lucy (Siena, Church of Santi Niccolo and Lucia).
