Louis Picard (1861 Paris - 1940)
Sailing ships
In front of a gently rising, hilly shore with houses, numerous sailing ships lie calmly in the barely moving water. Impression by Picard, who - like his brother Georges Picard (1857 - 1946) - was a pupil of Jean-Léon Gérôme (1824 - 1904) at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and exhibited regularly at the Salon, executed in a soft-focus style and cheerful, pastel-toned coloring. Oil on canvas, mounted on card (artist's stamp Blanchet, Paris). Signed lower left; inscribed in an unknown hand verso; 34.5 cm x 26.8 cm. Frame.
Oil on canvas, laid down on cardboard. Signed.
