Impressionist coastal landscape. Eugène Deshayes was a pupil of Jean-Léon Gérôme in Paris. He exhibited in Algiers from 1890, and also at the Salon des artistes français from 1894-1907, where he received an honorable mention in 1896. In 1910 he became an official painter for the navy. His Algerian motifs were particularly successful. He also painted sun-drenched and colorful landscapes of Corsica, Provence, the Balearic Islands and nuanced views of the Île-de-France.
