Flanders tapestry
The theme of this tapestry is a historical or mythological scene, in which men-at-arms, helmeted, armored and heavily armed with spears, escort one (or two?) prisoners of distinction (a king?) whose hands are tied and who is dressed in antique blue drapery adorned with what appear to be fleur-de-lis. Two of the jailers are high-ranking soldiers. In the distance, a fortified city can be glimpsed through the foliage of a forest, while the soldiery roams the countryside. The tapestry is framed in polychrome by a rich, wide border of vegetal caissons and landscape medallions, enriched with paired figures.
