[HISTOIRE]. Collection of miscellaneous pieces on the History of France [Reigns of Charles IX to Louis XV]. In French (with some passages in Latin), manuscripts on paper France, 18th century, after 1748 and therefore compiled under Louis XV 3 large folio volumes, [vol. I] title-779 pp.-[5] pp. of tables; [vol. II] 732 pp.-[6] pp. of tables; [vol. III] title page-683 pp.-[4] pp. of tables, [vol. IV] title page-683 pp. [4] pp. of table, very regular cursive handwriting, up to 22 lines per page, leaves justified in graphite (justification: 246 x 140 mm), titles copied in ink for each volume, letters stencilled in black ink on an engraved ornamental cartouche-frame, titles pasted down at the beginning of each volume, a few erasures or corrections, advertisements at the bottom of each page, traces of wetness in places, particularly at the end of vol. II. Bound in havana marbled calf, five-ribbed spines with partitions and fleurons, red and green leather title-pieces, gilt lettering, gilt roulette framing the boards, gilt roulette on the edges, red edges. Epidermures, spines and backs rubbed, some damage to headpieces, headband missing from tail of first volume. Size of bindings: 315 x 210 mm; size of leaves: 307 x 205 mm. It would be difficult to account for all the pieces in this strong three-volume collection. The texts are not organized chronologically either, and one can move from a text relating to the reign of Charles IX to another relating to the reigns of Henri IV, Louis XIII, Louis XIV or Louis XV. Many of the texts are edited, but we would need to check the variants and whether each extract is actually edited. Some texts are pamphlets, more or less censored depending on the period. For example, we copy a pamphlet L'Ombre de Henry le Grand [vol. III, XXXIV, pp. 455-546]: this work was published without a place of printing in 1615, small in-8 (96 pp.) (Bourgeois et André, IV, 2141). Some of the pieces relate to Marseille (see vol. II: Histoire véritable de la prise de Marseille... ; Véritable discours de la défaite d'l'armée rebelle au Roi en Provence ; Sentiment de M. Gibert sur la fondation de la ville de Marseille) but this is not systematic. Full details in the downloadable catalog.
