A frontispiece depicting the gallery of J. de Jullienne.
Jean de Jullienne (1686-1766) was a manufacturer and director of the Gobelins dye works. An art lover, patron and collector, he was a friend of Antoine Watteau, and one of the generous donors to the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture.
Of the paintings offered at auction, 141 belonged to the Northern schools. It was during this sale that Flemish and Dutch painting first achieved the same auction status as its Italian counterpart.
The final section featured porcelain, some Japanese and Chinese, as well as spectacular Boulle furniture.
