This is the innovative method proposed by the author in his Avis au lecteur. It's aimed at as many people as possible, regardless of gender or age, without having studied Latin. Little is known about this grammarian, who died in October 1753. Between 1741 and 1748, he published a Grammaire française, a Petit dictionnaire français, Le Coup d'oeil des dictionnaires français, and a Manière d'enseigner l'orthographe et la langue française. Brunot quotes him in his Histoire de la langue française. Copy signed by the author. Spectacular, fully gilded and lined binding, perfectly preserved, signed Padeloup le Jeune (1685-1758). His family owes its reputation to him. It is one of a handful of bindings with stippled decoration. Esmerian indicates that the material used (stippled irons) comes from the Atelier Rocolet. Only the lower silvered and embossed paper endpaper has been preserved. A hard-to-read storage mark R.III 6 (?) stamped on the first cover of the lining. Dimensions: 199 x 126 mm. Provenances: Cortland F. Bishop (Cat., 1948, no. 149), with his bookplate; P. Berès (Cat. 48, 1950, no. 169, reproduction); R. Gaston-Dreyfus (Cat., 1966, no. 87, reproduction, exp.: P. Berès); Esmerian (Cat. II, 1972, no. 47, reproduction), with his bookplate. Grente (G.), Dictionnaire des lettres françaises.
