Enguerrand de Monstrelet (c. 1420 - July 20, 1453) was the successor to Jean Froissart. His Chroniques are an important testimony to the history of the first part of the 15th century. They recount the wars between the Houses of Orleans and Burgundy, the English occupation of Paris and Normandy, and their expulsion from French territory.
A fine copy, very fresh inside, bound in the early 17th century.
The bindings have a few defects: corners crushed, some spotting, top board of vol. II stained, jaws rubbed...
Dimensions: 363 x 235 mm.
Provenances: handwritten ex-libris J. de Gamaches on last f. of vol. I; ex-libris Library Ragley Hall, owned by the Hertford family.
Tchemerzine, IV, p. 867 ("La Chronique is continued until 1516. The text is slightly modified. There are ex. in large paper").
