Important work by Dr. Clot-Bey, a physician who supported the new doctrines of Broussais, and who was forced to leave the hospital in Marseille. In 1825, he embarked for Egypt, where he was in charge of recruiting and organizing health services for the Egyptian army. He also looked after the civilian population, organized vaccinations, set up the Cairo Medical School, founded the Abou-Zabel Hospital and trained generations of doctors. A frontispiece by Jacob engraved by Bernard, 2 maps and 5 out-of-text plans, including 2 double-page and one fold-out. Missing false-titles, a few freckles and stains. Claude SAVARY.
