NOTE
This painting can be compared with the painting entitled "Le marchand d'esclaves" (The Slave Trader) in the Musée de Rennes and the preparatory sketch in the Musée de Dijon.
The figures on the left, turbaned children, and on the right, a young woman with a veil and an earring, evoke two very different series of paintings.
