NOTE
This portrait depicts a Sephardic Jewish woman of Italian origin exiled from the Ottoman Empire following the Italo-Turkish war of the early 20th century (September 29, 1911-October 18, 1912). Her dress and the embroidery of the scarf on her head are typical of Jewish women in Constantinople, Smyrna and Salonika.
