Wood and ivory Okimono depicting Tekkai sennin (Li tieh kuai in Chinese), Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912)
The head, right forearm, hands, feet and gourd are in ivory, while the rest of the body is in wood. He is looking down at his open hand, palm facing up his raised right arm. His cheeks are puffed out and he seems to be blowing towards his hand. In his other hand, he was holding a gnarled stick that has disappeared. He is dressed in a worn garment with a leafy border around his waist, typical of sennin representations, and wears a coloquint serving as a gourd on his belt. Standing on a wooden base secured by two brass screws. Under this base a red stamp with the signature Ryôun - 竜雲.
