MANUFACTURE ROYALE D'AUBUSSON . After a carton by Charles Le BRUN (1619-1690).
Le Triomphe d'Alexandre le Grand pour son entrée à Babylone. Important wool and silk tapestry. Early 18th century.
Dimensions : 192 x 240 cm. Maintenance restorations.
Nota :
Based on the 1665 painting by Charles Le BRUN (1619-1690) currently on display at the Musée de Louvre.
This fourth and final 11-piece hanging was presented by King Louis XIV to Anne Marie Louise D'Orléans, Duchesse de Montpensier, better known as the "Grande Mademoiselle" (1627-1693). The hanging was delivered twice, in 1685 and 1686.
The panel presented here is identical to the painting by Charles Le Brun (1619-1690).
What we know from the Cartons about the Triomphe d'Alexandre panel mentioned in the 1690 inventory.
