BELLMER Hans (1902-1975) L.A.S. "Bellmer", Revel [circa 1946], to René MAGRITTE; 2 pages in-4. Long letter in which Bellmer discusses Magritte's pamphlets. "Your letter and the parallel one from Eliane gave me immense pleasure: if I didn't answer you right away [...] it's because my life has undergone a total and shattering change. This and, again, work for which I was not equipped (etchings) - moving house, etc. - have not left me any respite [...] Among your tracts and publications which have reached me by one route or another, it is particularly the one bearing the title l'enculeur which seems to me effective and essential like a good nitric acid potion"... [Most of these particularly virulent pamphlets, directed against the Belgian government, had been confiscated by the post office]. "As soon as we were liberated, I suggested to a faithful friend, Brun, that we print some sheets which, folded in quarters, would fit easily into the usual envelopes. We were too isolated, too bored and too full of work to make them". But he adds that he "intends to do a little leaflet of this model on what we didn't say during and since the war: the cold, clear-cut glorification of those who didn't go along (deserters, conscientious objectors, resistance fighters etc.) - and there are some who paid dearly for maintaining this position [....] Brun has just told me that you're inserting my love letters in this savoir vivre [...] These love letters are taken from a book: Petite anatomie de l'inconscient physique (Little anatomy of the physical unconscious) which is due to be published - as a sequel to Jeux de la Poupée (Doll's Games) - but two are missing, one of which will be a hate letter"...
