BAUDELAIRE Charles (1821-1867).
L.A.S. "Ch. Baudelaire", [Paris, ca. February 16, 1860, to the writer Philoxène BOYER]; 1 page in-8 with erasures and corrections.
"Kindly, dear friend, leave here for me a note-catalogue of the various works written on the Venus de Milo. GUYS writes to me from London on this subject. I think he wants to write a brochure, an article, illustrated with drawings representing the hypotheses, i.e. the Venus restored according to the different imaginations of the authors"...
[Baudelaire greatly admired the talent of the painter Constantin Guys, whom he praised in Le Peintre de la vie moderne. He put Guys in touch with several authors about the Venus de Milo project, but none of them suited the artist. Baudelaire also appreciated Philoxène BOYER, author of plays and verse, for his great culture and the literary banquets he organized].
