ALEXANDER II (1818-1881) Tsar of Russia. L.A., S.P. [Saint Petersburg] January 7/19, 1868, to Catherine DOLGOROUKI, "Katia"; 4 pages in-8. Love letter to his mistress. He reproaches her for making a scene for him, and is dead at heart. He quotes Katia's letter at length, and adds: "After all this, I leave you to judge your own conduct towards the being who lives and breathes only through you. He cannot hold a grudge, for he loves her "more than life itself [...] I want you to come, for it would be too naughty of you to deprive me of the happiness of seeing you again, and as proof that you keep nothing on your heart, I beg you, when you see me, to touch your neck locket with your hand, and I, in reply, will touch my St George's cross. You will give me back my life in this way"...
