LOUIS XVI DEMI-LUNE COMMODE, in rosewood veneer, amaranth, light wood filet and blackened wood filet. It opens with two drawers and rounded front jambs with simulated fluting. It stands on tapered legs. Stamped P.H. MEWESEN for Pierre-Harry Mewesen, of Swedish origin, became a master in 1766 and set up shop on rue du Faubourg-Saint-Antoine, at "la main d'or", where he remained for some twenty years, until the French Revolution. A cabinetmaker of great talent, he left a few pieces of Louis XV furniture, but above all works in the Transition and Louis XVI styles, crafted with taste and imagination. Chests of drawers, desks, secretaries... on a rosewood base, are decorated with Chinese lacquer or marquetry, either with grids and geometric motifs, or depicting flowers, hunting trophies, musical instruments and all manner of scenes inspired by Far Eastern taste. His bronzes are generally discreet. 18th century. White marble top (probably added). (Minor accidents and missing veneer, restoration). H : 76.5 cm, W : 78 cm, D : 32 cm.
