Hussar senior officer's saber, German-style hilt with engraved and chased single limb, cruise decorated on each side with a medallion featuring a plant motif in the center, gilded filigree spindle, 89 cm curved blade with wide throat and flat back, with counter-edge at head, blued and decorated on one third with a hussar mounted saber to the clear and in a streamer "8 hussar", scarlet tie remnant on the frame, gilded brass scabbard, entirely engraved with flowers and foliage, with two pitons and steel stinger, gilding wear, oxidation on the blade, LT 105 cm, France Consulat/Empire period. Created during the Revolution from a regiment raised in 1792, the 8th Hussar was named in 1794. It was disbanded in 1814 with the fall of the Empire. It took part in numerous campaigns (in Germany, Prussia and Poland, Austria and Russia) under the Consulate and Empire, and distinguished itself at Austerlitz, Jena, Eylau and Wagram.
