PROVENANCE Galerie Protée, Paris Private collection, Côte d'Azur Wang Yan Cheng Wang Yan Cheng (b. 1960), who divides his time between France and China, has been attracting particular attention for his work since the 1990s, when he began exhibiting in museums and galleries and entering public collections. A contemporary successor to Zao Wou-Ki and Chu Teh-Chun, Wang Yan Cheng is the last great Franco-Chinese master of lyrical abstraction. His large, dreamlike landscapes, mental maps of a geography between dream and reality, invite the viewer to meditative contemplation. Accumulating flat tints of color to the point of giving his canvases a thick texture, his works focus on the dialogue between man, the universe and nature. A true international cultural mediator, he is celebrated today in Asia as well as in Europe, and his works are increasingly appreciated on the art market.
