FLEMISH SCHOOL circa 1640 after Guido RENI: The Virgin served by angels. Copper panel. On the reverse, round mark of the Antwerp copper preparer GK. 38 x 31 cm (wear and restoration). Frame.
Our painting is a repeat of Guido Reni's version of the COUSING VIRGIN, in private collection, with a red mantle, a single angel on the right and the one in the sky praying; the version that belonged to Mazarin and Louis XIV (anonymous sale, New York, January 26, 2012 (Sotheby's), no. 49), signed, like the engraving, features two angels on the right and an angel in the sky holding a wreath of flowers, the Virgin's mantle is white.
