Born in Granada in 1459, Mohammed XII was the twenty-second Nasrid ruler of Granada. He succeeded
His father Abû al-Hasan `Alî, known as "the Elder", in 1482. Nicknamed El Chico by the Castilians and L'Infortuné by the Arabs, he was taken prisoner by the Spanish in 1484 during the War of Granada.
