DORAT (Claude-Joseph). LES BAISERS, précédés du mois de mai, poëme. La Haye, Paris, Lambert, Delalain, 1770. Large in-8, lavaliered morocco, boards decorated in the Du Seuil style, interior gilt lace, ornate ribbed spine, gilt t., edged slipcase (Martine Bailleux). A masterpiece of the 18th century, illustrated with perfect taste and grace and magnificently illustrated by Eisen: it features a frontispiece engraved by Ponce, a figure engraved by Longueil, 22 vignettes, a fleuron on the title and 22 culs-de-lampe engraved mainly by Aliamet, Baquoy, Delaunay, Longueil, Massard. In fine, the 47-page Supplément à l'édition des Baisers, L'Imitation des poètes latins. A fine copy, very carefully re-engraved. Also by the same author in an almost identical binding: LES TOURTERELLES DE ZELMIS. (Paris, 1766). Frontispiece, 1 figure, 1 vignette and 1 cul-de-lampe by Eisen, engraved by de Longueil, with a state before the letter (Cohen, 160, 168). The 2 books are in the same slipcase.
