CABANAS and JME
Small oval coffee table, mahogany veneer, white marble top, curved with an openwork bronze gallery. It opens with a drawer forming a writing table, covered with green leather decorated with petit fer. It rests on 4 uprights joined by a crotch plate. Finely curved legs finished with wooden casters.
Late 18th century.
Stamped on the top of the front left jamb.

CANABAS Joseph Gengenbach
Joseph Gengenbach dit Canabas (1715-1797) - Master's degree obtained April 1, 1766: Of German origin, Canabas - whose real name was Joseph Gengenbach - arrived in Paris in the 1740s. Both cabinetmaker and joiner, he used veneer as well as solid wood.
